Walking Breaks

Linear expeditions and multi day breaks

Programmed dates for 2010

Details of the full list of treks and training available on demand are listed on the Activities Page.  All of these walks are long distance trails, most of which are based around recognised old drove roads and rights of way.  Many are high level walks, which while do-able at any time of year, in winter or late autumn/early spring can be very demanding, so not to be taken lightly.

Our partners Glen Trek should be contacted if you wish to book any of these events.  On each of these you get transport to and from the walk, overnight bed and breakfast, baggage transport, and a Mountain Leader.  A good standard of fitness will be required and also appropriate hill walking clothing and personal equipment.  And if you would like a real challenge why not combine the August Kilbo Trek with the immediately following Lairig Ghru!  While the pick up and drop off points are based in Blairgowrie other locations can be arranged.

Drover's Trek    2days/1 night

On this spectacular 2 day guided walking break you will follow two old drove trails through Angus, East Perthshire and Deeside in the lower Cairngorms National Park. A slight detour is taken so that 3 Munros can be ‘bagged’ on the way. Day 1 sees you on the second highest ancient right of way in the UK, the seldom trodden ‘Monega Path’.  After an overnight stop, day 2 is along the well loved hill track ‘Jock’s Road’, said to be the oldest right of way in Scotland.

Day 1    Monega Path (Auchavan to Auchallater)

Meet in Blairgowrie and minibus will transport you to the start of the walk.  Our walk starts in Glen Isla at Auchavan, and follows the River Isla back towards its source in Caenlochan Glen. Then the climb begins and we detour via the Munros of Glas Maol (1068m), Cairn of Claise (1064m), and Carn an Tuirc (1019m) before dropping into Glen Clunie at the foot of Sron na Gaoithe. Transport to your accommodation in Braemar for the night.

Day2    Jock’s Road (Auchallater to Glen Doll)

Transport to the start of Jock’s Road at Auchallater in Glen Clunie. This fabulous walk passes picturesque Loch Callater before a steep climb out of the glen to a height of 920m where the panoramic views can be enjoyed. Then it’s a drop down into Glen Doll, keeping a look out for those elusive eagles and ghosts on the way!  Transport from Glen Doll back to Blairgowrie.

Grade 4 (Very Strenuous)

Day 1: 18km/11miles    Day 2: 22km/13miles    Group size 4-10

Kilbo Trek     2 days/ 1night

This walking holiday starts in Glen Isla and links two well known long distance walks in the area. On the first day it’s the Kilbo Path from Glen Isla to Glen Doll following a track across the bealach (pr BEEalach, otherwise known as a col) between the two Munros, Driesh and Mayar.  Then, after an overnight accommodation stop in Glen Clova it’s off on a walk along ‘Jock's Road’ the well known hill track which goes between Glen Doll and Auchallater, near Braemar.  At the end of this you will be met and transported back to Blairgowrie.

Day 1    Kilbo Path (Glen Isla to Glen Doll)

Meet early in Blairgowrie or Dundee where the minibus will transport you to Glenmarkie and the start of the day’s walk. Walk over the Kilbo Path to Glen Doll where you will be driven the final 3 miles to your accommodation

Day 2    Jock's Road (Glen Doll to Auchallater)

Another early start and we will transport you to the start of ‘Jocks Road’ (said to be the oldest Right of Way in Scotland) linking Glen Doll to Auchallater, near Braemar. This is one of the best loved hill tracks in Scotland with great views and ghost stories … Transport will meet the group at Auchallater and take you back to Blairgowrie

Lairig Ghru    (Braemar to Aviemore)

Join us on this high level route through a wild and remote area of the Cairngorms National Park. Despite being a ‘pass between two hills’ as the name suggests, it reaches a height of 840m, higher than many Scottish hills.

Towering above the pass are the imposing Cairngorms mountains, with Ben Macdui on the east, at a height of 1,309m it is Scotland's second highest peak, while on the west is Braeriach, the third highest.  For details please go to the Lairig Ghru activity description.  If this is your first trip to the Cairngorms you won’t be disappointed –these mountains are awesome!

Day 1    You will be picked up early evening from Dundee or Blairgowrie and transported to Braemar with time to spare for you to settle into your accommodation and prepare for the early start tomorrow.

Day 2    We take you to Linn of Dee, situated a few miles outside Braemar where your walk begins… The walk takes approximately 10 hours. Transportation will be waiting for you at the end to take you the final few miles onwards to Aviemore and your accommodation. Here you can enjoy a well earned meal and celebrate having completed an iconic Scottish hill walk!
